Tea tasting at Paper and Tea

Sep 2018 • By Flavia Coe • 0 Comments

Tea is one of the subjects that interests me the most at the moment. During my travels, it has become a habit to visit local supermarkets so I can buy a few tea samples or just have a look at the available selection. Here in Berlin, there are a few tea brands I really like. One of them is Paper and Tea.  I recently had the pleasure of participating to a free tasting there. Apparently it  happens every first Saturday of the month in their flagship store in Charlottenburg.

The first one I attended was September’s, which has mainly focused on the impact of water quality on the taste of the brewed tea. The most interesting tasting element was to try the same tea type with four different types of water: tap, filtered and two mineral bottled waters. Although I have realised that the tea flavour is intensified when you use bottled water, I have learned that there is no right or wrong when it comes to tea brewing. The results will depend on a few variables, such as water quality, temperature, storage, and leaf age. With this in mind, the tip is to try different combinations until you find the one that matches your taste.

In case you are interested in knowing more about the tea universe this is a great opportunity to learn a bit and expand your knowledge in the area. The tasting is in German, so it might also be a good opportunity to brush your knowledge of this language.

The Charlottenburg branch of Paper and Tea is located in the Bleibtreustraße 4, 10623 Berlin.
